Federal Employees Set to Experience the Largest Health Premium Increase in Over a Decade
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced that federal employees enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program will face a 13.5% average premium increase starting in January 2025. This is the largest increase in over a decade, driven by rising costs in health care services and prescription drugs. Postal Service Health Benefits (PSHB) program participants will see a smaller 6.9% increase.
Open Season and Plan Updates
During Open Season, from November 11 to December 9, 2024, FEHB and PSHB enrollees can review and adjust their health care plan options for 2025. Notable changes include expanded coverage for in vitro fertilization (IVF), anti-obesity medications, and maternal health. In vitro fertilization benefits will increase to $25,000 for select plans, while behavioral health services will receive greater support.
